Kevin Gatzke, saxophone
Nashville based saxophonist Kevin Gatzke is a multifaceted and spirited player whose equal blend of bebop and soul/funk language, coupled with a dynamic and distinctive tone, provides him a uniquely versatile voice on the instrument. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and growing up listening to equal parts Clarence Clemons and Stan Getz, Kevin brings a lunch pail Eilled with steak tartare attitude to the saxophone, sophistication encased in accessibility.
Holding a M.M. in Commercial Music from Belmont University as well as a B.A. in Jazz Studies from the University of Illinois, Kevin has been able to hone is skills in jazz and popular music styles under the tutelage of Chip McNeil, Alex Graham, and many others. He has since furthered the music education idiom, serving as Adjunct Instructor at both Belmont University and Sewanee: University of the South.
Since moving to Nashville, Kevin has become a permanent member of the Nashville- based jazz/funk/R&B band Dynamo. He has also toured with, recorded or performed alongside artists such as Anderson East, Danny Gokey, Carly Pearce, Trisha Yearwood, Wynonna Judd, Emmy Lou Harris, Charles Esten, Cory Wong, Cody Fry, Jeff CofEin (sp?), Bob Lanzetti, Felix Pastorious, and countless others. His skills as a horn arranger has also garnered him numerous performing and recording opportunities. Most recently, he can be heard on Patrick Droney’s State of the Heart and Devon GilEillian’s remake of Marvin Gaye’s iconic What’s Going on.
